Therapy dogs and their handlers go visit hospitals, nursing facilities, the sick, and homebound. Bringing broad smiles to people's faces and happiness to their hearts, it has been clinically proven that petting, touching and talking with the animals, a patients’ blood pressure is lowered, stress is relieved and depression is eased.
TDI was founded in the late 1970’s and its canine membership is comprised of purebred and mixed breed dogs who have shown the capacity to having the proper temperament suited to be a therapy dog. TDI's standards are set high - to see their testing requirements, CLICK HERE.
In October 2003, Miss Bailey and I were evaluated, tested and passed by a Certified TDI Evaluator for the International Therapy Dog, Inc. After 2 excruciatingly painful months of waiting, our credentials finally arrived in the mail!! Currently Miss Bailey is providing valuable therapy to the Sumner Traumatic Brain Injury Support group on Thursday nights, where she thoroughly enjoys the petting, loving and treats the folks give her. And I thoroughly enjoy the huge smiles on their faces as Miss Bailey spreads her love around the room. |
